About

A community club built by the community, for the community — since 1975.

Our History

The North Star Sporting Club was officially incorporated on 4 December 1975, established by local farmers and graziers to create a central hub for the district.

Our foundational Memorandum of Association was signed by eight locals: John Clifton Doolin, Leonard William Lillyman, Alexander Makim, Ronald John Mitchell, Valfred Norman Scholz, Edwin Anthony Tonkin, Roy Tweedy, and Harvey McMaster Waugh.

The Club was formed to bring together the assets and spirit of five existing community organisations — the Bushmans Carnival Association, the Pony Club, the Pistol Club, the Golf Club, and the Cricket Club — under one roof. That founding vision of community under one banner is as relevant today as it was fifty years ago.

Over five decades, the Club has served as the gathering place for North Star — hosting campdrafts, sporting events, fundraisers, family celebrations and the quiet Friday nights that make a small town feel like home.

Building Our Future

In March 2026, we asked our members and community what they wanted from the Club. The response was clear — North Star wants a Club that’s active, welcoming, well-maintained and worth belonging to.

The Board has listened. Our 2026–2028 Strategic Plan is built directly on that feedback, and we’re already moving.

What we’re working on:

  • Infrastructure — Renovating and upgrading the bathrooms and facilities to a standard the community deserves. Window and security upgrades underway. New shaded grandstand seating for events.
  • The venue — Interior refresh including new flooring, updated furniture and a cleaner, more welcoming space inside.
  • Membership — A new membership framework that gives members real value: member benefits, a weekly draw, happy hour and more. Launching mid-2026.
  • Events — A full events calendar including regular dining nights, live music, community days and the introduction of the Sunday afternoon session.
  • Community — Stronger partnerships with local sporting clubs, agricultural events and regional organisations to make the Club the natural centre of North Star life.

We’re proud of where we’ve come from. We’re even more excited about where we’re going.
